Ralph Hunt, birth date not known but probably ca. 1656 as sometimesfound reported, but without verification, m. 1st the widow SusannahSmith, widow of John Smith. Her maiden name was possibly HART dau. ofJohn Hart. but the two gave deeds in 1686 and 1692 for lands inJamaica, LI from where they moved to Maidenhead Twp., NJ by 1694 (inDecember of which year Ralph Hunt and Theophilus Phillips were deeded100 acres of land near the York Road). Ralph and wife Susanna gave adeed there in October 1700 and Ralph Hunt and Benjamin Harding gavethe ground on which the Presbyterian Church in Lawrenceville islocated in June 1711 to thirty-six townspeople, including Ralph's wifeSusanna, the only woman mentioned. Soon afterwards Susanna died andRalph m. 2nd, ca. 1712, Elizabeth whose last name has notbeen discovered.. He apparently had no children by first wife (nonementioned in his will) but had eight by 2nd wife before his death in1732-3. His widow m. 2nd Philip Phillips, son of Theophilus andFrances ( ) Phillips. and grandson of Theophilus and Anna(Hunt) Phillips. The long record of Ralph Hunt in government andcommunity service in Maidenhead Twp., NJ need not be related here. On17 Aug. 1703 he was commissioned a Captain of West Jersey Troops underCol. Daniel Cox. By deed of 25 May 1723 he received from Daniel Coxeof Trenton some 387 acres for 200 pounds sterling "the plantation onwhich he dewlleth" (presumably purchasing full title beyond the "rightto use" which Courts had interpreted was the extent of previouspurchase). His will dated 5 Nov. 1732 and proved 9 Feb. 1732-3mentions his wife and living children (leaving to"2nd son Ralph Hunt,a minor, part of a plantation on the King's road from Trenton to NewBrunswick" and "to third son Samuel Hunt part of a plantation belowthe King's Road", both to subsequently pay legacies to other brothersand sisters.
