Notes for Ananias? (Spouse 1)
Source: "The Genealogical Magazine of New Jersey," Vol. 17, pgs. 51-54 (forwarded in email of 4/25/00 from David G. Allen . In addition to Dutch Reformed Church of Raritan (Somerville) records, the earliest reference to Ananias, Sr. is in the muster roll of Col. Thomas Farmar's militia regiment in 1715. In Capt. Peter Demont's company, evidently recruited chiefly in Somerset County, were Ananias Allen, Sergeant and Anenias Allen, Jr.; William Allen and the latter's brother-in-law Benj. Artsey (Archer?). In 1716 George Willocks, a large landowner in East Jersey, sued Ananias Alen for payment of a debt of 80 pounds and was granted judgment by default. No mention of the name has been found between 1717 and 1725, and as the term "junior" is not used thereafter, it is possible the elder Anaias died around that time, and that further references are to the son.
