Notes for Henrietta White
The story of Daniel Rose and his first wife, Henrietta White is famous!!!  In researching online, I found NUMEROUS references to it, which I have included below.  The story is that Daniel married Henrietta White in February 1806 and in September 1806 she gave birth to a Mulatto child.  Daniel petitioned for a divorce, and a state statute was passed granting the divorce.  The story seems to be that Henrietta had been having an affair with a black slave owned by her grandfather.  Over 60 witnesses came forward to support Daniel's version that she had prior to the marriage  relations with the slave, and continued relations with the man after her marriage to Daniel.  The statute passed in December of 1806 granted the divorce and absolved Daniel from any future responsibility for Henrietta White or the child.  Daniel married Susannah Brown about 2 years later.  Grandma D wrote about how strict and prim Catherine Bernard (Rose) Dildine was -- maybe after that early disaster, her father (Daniel Rose), became very rigid.

General Petition Information
Abstract:
Seventy-one residents of Prince William County testify that they are well acquainted with Daniel Rose, who married Henrietta White, also considered at the time of the marriage as a person of "good character," in February 1806. In September of the same year, however, some seven months after celebration of the wedding, Henrietta was delivered of "a mulatto child," who is thought to have been fathered by a slave belonging to her grandfather. Furthermore, the petitioners inform the court, it is believed that Henrietta has had "criminal connection with the said negro man" since her marriage to Rose. The petitioners apply to the legislature on Daniel Rose's behalf, asking that he be released from his "unfortunate connection."
