“I remember spending my summers with Grandpa (Daniel Aaron Dildine) and Grandma Dildine and they are some of the nicest memories I have. Grandpa could rally tell some tall tales. Everything grew bigger, better and tastier in Kansas. I was 17 when he passed away. We lived in Laton, Fresno Co, in fact I was born there. So far, there has been no change in the spellling of the Dildine name, but I am only back to 1799. I am really just a beginner.

My mother, lives in Crescent City. She is 71 now and does pretty well. Ada and Vera, her sisters still live in Laton. She has lost all of her brothers. “

Daniel and Pearl migrated from Kansas to California in 1911, settling first at Kennett, Calif., which is now under the waters of Shasta Lake, then moving to Laton, Fresno County where they resided until death. Daniel was a carpenter by trade. They are both buried in Fowler Cemetery.
