Notes for Ulrich Auwärter
folio 52
Moved to Hohengehren in 1898
Have Marriage records for both of his marriages

From Ulrich’s great grandson, Karl Faiß :

Ulrich’s nickname was “Urle”. He had to sell land (fields) and then he has worked as a farmer, weaver, wood-carver and Grave-digger. My grandmother (his daughter) often had to go to a hidden place in the forest and fetch a roe. She took the roe in a big basket and carried it home on her head. The reason for poaching was obviously misery. My grandparents told me that in the hard times poor farmers exchanged on field for a loaf of bread. Thirty years later Mrs. Bäunstecher (born Auwärter) said that her family had a field called “Brotacker” or field of bread. This field was a field from “Urle.” Ulrich Auwärter (Urle) moved with his daughter, Pauline, to Hohengehren, where he is buried.

He had 17 children. 7 emigrated into the USA (one son “Karl” to California) and one son “August” to Brazil.
