Saturday, April 20, 1940 newspaper article
‘Oakland Shut-In Active Despite Grave Handicap
cause many to give up all effort and be waited upon, Mrs. Carrie Dildiine does more work for her club and her home than many persons in normal health. Joining one of the first clubs organized in Oakland, Mrs. Dildine was a leader in many phases of the club’s activities until about one year ago when she sustained a fractured hip as the result of a fall.
Although confined to a wheel chair because of her injury, she first learned to do her housework, propelling herself swiftly and easily from one task to another. Rapidly gaining facility at this, she soon found she had time to devote to her club and now her activities include getting new members, getting her friends to save old papers which her club sells, passing along copies of the Townsend Weekly to non-members and selling tickets to callers to aid club benefit events.
Mrs. Dildine was born on a farm near Canton, Ill., and later pioneered in Kansas. Coming to California in 1907, she soon began to display an active interest in civic affairs. When she first heard of the Townsend Plan she proceeded to study it and has been a stalwart champion of the cause continuously since. She voted in a recent election, being wheeled to the polls by friends. She is the mother of two sons and one daughter, and is “Grandma” to 17 boys and girls, of whom she is very proud.”

On death certificate, immediate cause of death listed as cerebral Hemorrhage 3 days
Bronchopneumonia 1 day, and Diabetes Mellitus 15 years
