As you know, I'm Jennifer Elam Bawden, the owner of the list. I also host 5 East Central Kentucky counties within the KY GenWeb project. My Proctor line is through James Proctor. He was born 4 May 1774 in either New York or Virginia. He died 14 Aug 1858 in Rockcastle Co., KY and was buried in the James Proctor Cem., Rockcastle Co., KY. It's suspected that his father was George Proctor (Abt. 1742 , Caroline Co. , VA - Abt. 1834 , Rockcastle Co., KY).

James married Magdalena Brenneman on 20 Jun 1799 in Albermarle Co., VA. Madgalena was born in either PA or VA. Her father was David Brenneman (Abt 1754 , Lancaster Co., PA - Abt 1820 , Westmoreland Co., PA ). She died in Rockcastle Co., KY. On the 1850 Rockcastle Co. Census, James is listed with a wife named Mary. Some have documented that this was Magdalena's sister, Mary, but she married someone in PA.

The children of James are listed below. Since there is a confusion regarding wives and the last 2 children, I'm not sure who the mother was of all these children:

David Proctor - b. 1802 , , VA
Spouse: Lucy Hiatt

George Proctor - b. 1803 , , VA
Spouse: Elizabeth Fish

Elizabeth "Betsy" Proctor - b. 1807 , , VA - d. 30 Sep 1889

Spouse: Milla Reynolds Marriage: 24 Nov 1834

Frankie Proctor

"Snooky" Proctor

Nothing is known of these two children. "Snooky" is obviously a nickname, but her true name isn't known.

I descend through Anderson Proctor and have quite a bit of information on this family. If this links with you, let me know!

Ok...how about the rest of you?

Jen

Notes for Magdalena (Spouse 1)
According to the family bible, Magdalena Brenneman was born 28 Aug 1780 and died 11 Jan 1840 in Rockcastle Co., KY

Their 15 children were:

Fanny who was born 10 Jun 1800
David B. who was born 05 Oct 1801
George who was born 13 May 1803
Joel who was born 10 Mar 1805
Elizabeth who was born 25 Feb 1807
William who was born 01 Jan 1809
James who was born 02 Mar 1811
John who was born 09 Mar 1813
Bradford J. who was born 04 Jul 1815
Anderson Granville who was born 29 Aug 1817 (my ancestor)
Sidney who was born 08 Dec 1819
Elisha who was born 08 Dec 1819
Susannah who was born 25 Jun 1822
Willis Green who was born 26 Jun 1826 (also seen in subsequent records as Willis/William Henry Green)
Alford who was born 01 Feb 1828 (also seen in subsequent records as Alfred)

Those who appear to have survived to adulthood are David, George, Elizabeth, James, John, Anderson, Sidney, Elisha, Willis, and Alfred.

James and Magdalena (who is also seen as Mary) was both buried on top of a hill that now overlooks I-75 just outside Mt. Vernon, KY. Joel was buried there as well.

James is seen on the 1850 Rockcastle Co. Census with a woman named Mary who was quite a bit younger than him. I don't know if there was a marriage between them as early Rockcastle Co. records were lost in a courthouse fire.

Now...after all that back history, here's my puzzle...and anyone who can help solve it gets a free subscription to this mailing list!! <grin>

There was a Revolutionary War soldier who ended up in Rockcastle Co. from Virginia. His name was George Proctor. George was born in Caroline Co., VA...don't remember the exact date, but it's in his pension papers I've got in my research file.
